Program Description

Event Details

Demco's Book Doctor is presenting a book care workshop for SCKLS member library staff, and you are invited! Join us to learn how to keep well-loved books in circulation longer and your collection in top shape year-round. Whether you work in a public, school, academic, or special library, this workshop is your prescription for healthy books!

This hands-on workshop will provide you with all the tools you need—hardcover and softcover books to practice on, a new pair of scissors (yours to keep, compliments of SCKLS), plus small repair tools. You'll also get access to course notes with free how-to videos, product directories, and a comprehensive repair guide.

Join workshop presenter Kimberly Young, Demco's Book Doctor, and our community of SCKLS librarians dedicated to book care! Gain confidence and hands-on experience to protect your books and your bottom line.

In this workshop, you'll learn basic book care, such as:

  • Basic page, hinge, and spine repairs
  • How to tip-in a loose page
  • Book jacket and laminate applications to protect books before they circulate
  • How to reinforce spines for added durability

Guest presenter Kimberly Young is Demco's Book Doctor. She’s worked in a wide variety of library settings across regionally, socially, and culturally diverse areas of the U.S. Her work focuses on collection development, material processing, and book care. As the Book Doctor, she’s traveled the country helping hundreds of attendees build a range of new skills, a better understanding of processing books, and confidence. Kimberly loves meeting all the new people who are as passionate about book care as she is.
