Program Description

Event Details

Calling all book guardians! Preparing a brand new book for its journey into circulation takes a heroic effort. Covers, reinforcements, and labels are fitted like armor for its first checkout adventure. But what about the countless adventures that follow? And how do you continue to safeguard all the books in your collection?

Fear not! This is how your librarian superpowers get honed. Join us in person to master essential book repair techniques to extend the life and boost the circulation of your collection. Whether you need a refresher or are new to the realm of book repair, our SCKLS hero Nicole Penley, outreach services specialist, will lead you step-by-step through the basic techniques for repairing circulating books.

As a champion of books at this in-person workshop, you will receive a small book repair toolkit and an instruction manual to arm you for future missions. Please bring 2-3 books in need of repair from your collection to be used for discussion purposes only. Join us and become the hero your books need!

In this webinar, you will:

  • Determine which books are appropriate candidates for in-house book repair
  • Identify tools appropriate for book repair
  • Utilize simple book repair techniques, including repairing torn pages, tipping in loose pages, tightening loose hinges, and repairing broken text blocks
