Attention small- and medium-sized libraries! Let's face it, most of us are not trained informational technology professionals. However, a critical aspect of a librarian's job is to provide technology resources that fit our community's needs. SCKLS technology services may be able to help.

In order to assist in providing a stable and supportable network environment, SCKLS offers a small business network solution that integrates with most Internet Service Provider (ISP) networks and meets most functionality, security and support needs of smaller and some medium-sized member libraries.

If you are interested in learning about a supported network solution that may benefit your library community, join Larry Papenfuss, SCKLS director of information technology, and Nichole Kostner, SCKLS network services coordinator, as they help you navigate equipment and terminology, like ISP, router/firewall, switches, WiFi access points, wiring (electrical and network), surge protection and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), network rack, reboot-restore controller, and printing aspects of a typical SCKLS supported network.

At this in-person training, you will:

  • Identify the parts of a SCKLS supported network
  • Define basic network technology terminology
  • Explain technical issues or network service issues being experienced at your library
  • Troubleshoot network and computer connectivity issues prior to contacting SCKLS for support
  • Document and describe network issues you need assistance resolving

If you oversee the technology plan at your small- to medium-sized library and are interested in seeing networking equipment and an explanation of the purpose of each network component, you won't want to miss this valuable in-person training.

Note: Due to limited resources, SCKLS is only able to provide limited network support. The SCKLS supported network solution is not intended for large libraries, school libraries, or special libraries. In these environments, please work with your in-house or contracted IT solution specialist to best assist with your network needs.
