Program Description

Event Details

Public libraries and community organizations are joining forces to promote healthier communities by combining libraries’ trusted spaces with health experts’ knowledge. Your library can be a part of this important movement to promote health and wellness in your community!

Discover how libraries and community health organizations are working to improve health literacy, wellness, and mental health programs, connect people to vital resources, help reduce disparities and build stronger, healthier communities through effective partnerships.

Join guest presenter Margie Sheppard, Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), to explore how to build relationships, assess community health needs, and increase staff confidence in providing reliable health information.

Special bonus! Library Director Cari Cusick will share about a successful partnership that is currently making a difference in the Newton Public Library community.

In this webinar, you will:

  • Discover how library–community partnerships can boost health literacy, promote wellness, and help close health gaps.
  • Learn practical ways to build strong, lasting relationships with local health organizations.
  • Gain tools to identify and respond to your community’s most pressing health needs.
  • Build confidence in sharing trustworthy health information and connecting patrons to valuable health resources.

Guest presenter Margie Sheppard is the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) Region 3. She is based out of the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. Prior to joining NNLM, she was a technology consultant for a public library system in rural Kansas. She has an undergraduate degree in Nursing and a Master's in Library Science. She teaches a variety of classes for NNLM and has a passion for connecting people with reliable health information resources.

Guest presenter Cari Cusick has been the director of the Newton Public Library since December 2020. She was previously the director of the Hesston Public Library. She has a Master's in Library Science and a PhD in Library and Information Management, both from Emporia State University.
