As AI tools become more prevalent, libraries are faced with new challenges and opportunities. Legal and practical questions abound! Interested in looking for answers? Join us for this webinar led by two legal experts as we navigate legal and practical issues surrounding AI-generated content.

This session will explore how best to acknowledge and cite AI tools and will provide an overview of the legal rules governing AI creations. The goal? To help you and your staff feel more confident discussing AI tools and applying these tools to serve patrons as AI technology advances.

After attending this webinar, you will:

  • Understand the difference between works in the public domain and works protected by copyright
  • Know how to describe "fair use" in copyright law
  • Be aware of the American Psychological Association (APA) citation style and the Chicago Style Manual's approach to citing AI and indicating provenance, or origin

Guest presenter Neal Axton, JD, MLIS, studies the confluence of federal agency law and expert systems. Neal advocates for open educational resources and collaborative best practices for AI in education in his role as a law librarian at the University of Kansas.

Guest presenter Andrew Nordick, JD, is an AI governance professional (IAPP AI) and an intellectual property attorney. Andrew's deep knowledge of intellectual property law and modern business practices allows him to demystify complex legal questions. Andrew advises clients on AI governance issues including copyright, trademark, and licensing.
