Scams, phishing attempts, and suspicious emails are increasingly common—and the library is often the first stop for patrons seeking help. How should you prepare yourself and your team to navigate these tricky questions?

Step one, learn from a trusted source. Join your SCKLS colleagues for this practical training led by Larry Papenfuss, SCKLS Director of Information Technology, to focus on how to recognize common online threats and respond with confidence.

Explore digital dangers like scams, spam, and phishing, along with real-world examples, practical tools, and trusted resources to help you evaluate and avoid these risks. In addition to strengthening personal digital security practices—such as recognizing suspicious messages and managing passwords securely—you'll also gain strategies to guide your patrons as they interact with a complex digital world.

If your goal is to strengthen your own digital safety skills while supporting your community's cybersecurity awareness, then this session is for you!

In this webinar, you will:

  • Identify three online tools to help determine if an email or fax is a scam
  • Define the terms spam, phishing, and scam
  • Analyze patron support requests to help them evaluate and understand if they are being scammed
  • Be able to identify 3-4 resources to help patrons and staff be safe online
