Program Description

Event Details

Do you have patrons who may benefit from the Kansas Talking Books program? This personalized, free service provides audio and braille reading materials to eligible Kansans who are not able to read traditional books. But how does the service work? And who is eligible?

Find out answers to all of your questions in this SCKLS-hosted webinar The Librarian's Guide to Talking Books. Experts from the State Library of Kansas will provide a general overview of the Kansas Talking Books service and highlight ways that the program can benefit library users in your community.

In this webinar, you will:

  • Learn about eligibility requirements for talking books services and additional requirements for users under 18 years of age
  • Discover which professionals can certify patron applications
  • Review the services available to eligible participants
  • Explore the services available to public libraries through an institutional demonstration account

Guest presenter Maggie Witte is the Outreach Librarian for the State Library of Kansas, Talking Books Service. She started working with Kansas Talking Books right after graduating from Emporia State University's SLIM program in 2015. Beyond spreading awareness of services for the print disabled, Maggie loves to read, crochet, color, and watch foreign language TV series. She has two cats.

Guest presenter Michael Lang is the Director of the State Library of Kansas, Talking Books Service. He got his start with talking books at the urging of Dan Eells by volunteering as a narrator while in graduate school.
