WebinarProgram Description
Event Details
Programming for teens can be a daunting task. It's difficult to understand what teens might be interested in and what resources they most need. Science to the rescue!
Join us to explore teens through a bio-psycho-social lens. Gain powerful information about teen development and learn how to adapt that development into a holistic, theory-supported programming model.
Presented by an experienced teen librarian and master’s-level social worker, this webinar will offer specific programming examples, a programming strategy for planning, and methods for creating programs that inform, teach, and entertain your youth population.
In this webinar, you will:
- Classify teen needs based on a general understanding of biological, psychological, social, and emotional development.
- Use teen needs as a framework for identifying specific programming goals that inform, teach, and entertain teenagers in a library setting.
- Examine program activities and resources through an intended outcome and how this outcome directly addresses the needs of the adolescent.
- Develop specific programming examples with a programming model that will aid in brainstorming future opportunities.
- Investigate a holistic and theory-supported programming model that can be used when presenting new program ideas to financial stakeholders.
Guest presenter Alyssa LaRue is the Adult and Teen Services Coordinator at the Derby Public Library. She organizes events and programs for the community and has served her library’s teen population for 11 years. Alyssa also designs and facilitates marketing materials for local media outlets and social media platforms. Alyssa has a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and Film Studies from Missouri State University, a Masters in Social Work from Wichita State University, and a 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher Certification from Yoga Alliance.
