Program Description

Event Details

Do you want to get the right materials into patrons' hands without breaking the bank or overcrowding shelves? If you're nodding and you work at a SCKLS "SLAP" library, then this webinar is for you! Providing interlibrary loan (ILL) services grows the reach of your collection exponentially and is key to supporting the diverse needs in your community.

Become a proficient SLAP (SCKLS Libraries as Patrons) and ILL participant by joining Katherine Williams, SCKLS library support specialist, to gain a deeper understanding of ILL best practices, benefits, and processes. Learn how to search the Kansas Library Catalog (KLC), place ILL requests, and ship materials.

In this webinar, you will:

  • Review the process of placing interlibrary loan requests as a borrowing library
  • Identify new ways of finding materials for patrons
  • Implement best practices in ILL to better participate in the ILL community
  • Explore methods of record-keeping for precise ILL statistic tracking

What is a SLAP library and how do I know if my library participates? SLAP represents non-KICNET libraries that place interlibrary loan requests through SCKLS; however, shipping is direct between lending and borrowing locations.  Check this linked list to see if your library is considered a SLAP or KICNET library. SLAP librarians, please register using the form on this page!

If you work at a KICNET library, KICNET is offering a webinar specifically for you on September 26. KICNET librarians, please register for the webinar Interlibrary Loan Essentials for KICNET Libraries here, or watch the recording when it is available.
